Harriet Ann Briglin, (nee: Sheehan), 87, peacefully and quietly left this world in God's friendship, surrounded by her loved ones, on a bright blue and breezy Friday evening, June 20, in Cambridge, MA.  Harriet received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick from Fr. Thomas Mulligan
who serves at Sancta Maria Nursing Home where she resided until her death. She was remembered during Holy Mass on Corpus Christi Sunday, June 22, at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Cambridge with Rev. Jim Darcy presiding. A family viewing followed across the street at Rogers Funeral Home where Fr. Darcy led the prayers for the dead and kindly included the Irish Blessing, "May the Road Rise to Meet You." Harriet leaves behind a large, loving family who will be forever grateful for her
life. She is survived by her 7 children: Steven J. Hamel of Windham, NH; Catherine M. Garnsey (Robert) of Cold Spring, NY; John C. Hamel (Marianne), of Carmel NY; Patricia M. Hamel of Cambridge MA; David L. Hamel (Robin) of Somersworth, NH; Martha A. Bronk (Paul) of Lynn, MA; Robert R. Hamel (Kristen) of Salem, MA; and their half sister, Kim Hamel of Windham, NH; her 12 grandchildren and their spouses; and her 5
great-grandchildren. Harriet's beloved little grandson, Steven J. Hamel, Jr.,
predeceased her.  Her loved ones will remember Harriet as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, an accomplished homemaker, an excellent cook and baker, a gracious hostess and the best Scrabble player in the family. Harriet was a gifted, intelligent, and talented lady with a pithy sense of humor. She will be especially remembered for her love of music and for playing the piano and leading sing-alongs at many, many gatherings of family and friends throughout the years. Harriet also played professionally at many fine venues in Yorktown Heights, NY and on the South Shore of Boston. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 28 at 12 noon at St. Michael's Cemetery in Springfield, MA. Harriet will be laid to rest between her beloved parents, Raymond Sheehan and Lydia Sheehan (nee: Füerst) who predeceased her. Harriet also leaves behind her sister Kathleen Davenport and her two children of Palo Alto, CA; her beloved sister Janet’s two children and family and her cousin Frances Sheehan of North Hadley, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Sancta Maria Nursing Home, 799 Concord Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138 in appreciation for the special care that they gave to Harriet during the last weeks of her life.
