Paul Brian MacDonald, 78, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2026. He was born on August 17, 1947, to the late Allan MacDonald and Marie MacDonald.
Paul grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts. In his late twenties, his life changed dramatically following a serious automobile accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. With remarkable perseverance, faith, and determination, he overcame tremendous challenges and built a life filled with purpose and simple joys. He moved to his parents’ beloved cottage at White Horse Beach in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where he lived with his mother for many years until her passing. He continued to make the cottage his home for the majority of his adult life, finding peace in its familiar surroundings and the community he loved.
He was predeceased by his parents, Allan and Marie MacDonald, and his siblings, Allan MacDonald and Karen McLean. He is survived by his brother, Roy F. MacDonald, and his wife, Margie.
Known simply as “Uncle Paul” to family, friends, and neighbors, Paul was a quiet man who preferred a simple life. Though reserved, he had a kind heart and a deep love for his family. He especially cherished his nieces and nephews—Rachael, Melissa, Allan, Rocky, Susan, and Chris—and took great joy in watching their families, including their children, grow through the years.
Paul’s life was grounded in his unwavering Christian faith and his devotion to his church. He found happiness in taking long walks throughout Plymouth, where he became a familiar face to many. Those who knew him will fondly remember his signature expression, “Great Caesar’s Ghost!”—a phrase that always brought a smile.
In his later years, Paul slowed down, but one thing never changed: his love of spending time with family. Some of his happiest moments were simple visits with those he loved, especially when they included a stop for vanilla ice cream, his favorite treat.
Paul will be remembered for his steadfast faith, quiet strength, and enduring resilience. He never let life’s hardships define him. Though he often kept to himself, he touched many lives through his generosity, sincerity, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church community, and all who were fortunate enough to know “Uncle Paul.”
