James Edward Murphy of Cambridge, MA, beloved brother of Marianna Murphy Zazzaro (John) and Katherine Murphy Haldeman (Robert), passed away on December 4, 2014.
Born on March 3, 1941 in Washington, D.C., James is the son of the late James E. Murphy, Esq. and Eleanore M. Murphy. James was raised in South Norwalk, CT and attended the University of Miami in Florida. A veteran, James served active duty in the United States Coast Guard. At the time of his death, James was employed by Health Resources in Action-Substance Abuse Helpline. James was a member of the board of the Alliance Cambridge Tenants (ACT).
Along with his sisters, James leaves behind his nieces Deirdre Foley, Sara Haldeman, Katherine Zazzaro Butler and his nephews David Zazzaro and Clifford Haldeman. James was a gentle, compassionate, loyal friend to many.
Calling hours are Monday, December 8, 2014, 9:30am-10:30am at the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA followed by a service at 11:00am at St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Ave., Cambridge. A private burial will be held the following day for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Health Resources in Action-Substance Abuse Helpline at 95 Berkeley Street, Boston, MA 02116/Att. Robin Fox or the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants at P.O. Box 391078, Cambridge, MA 02139.
