Soares, Jose M., of Somerville, June 17, 2023, at the age of 79.
Jose was born in Portugal on the island of Santa Maria, Azores on July 17, 1943 and emigrated to the United States in 1968. He married Angela M. (Sousa) Soares in January of 1969 and was a devoted husband for 54 years.
He originally lived in East Cambridge before moving to Somerville in January 1977. He worked at Boston University in the maintenance department for over 36 years, before retiring in 2006.
Loving father of Dave Soares and his wife Filomena, Nancy Chaves and her husband Anthony, and Cliff Soares.
Cherished grandfather of Joshua Chaves, Matthew Chaves, Nico Soares, Sierra Soares and Andre Soares.
Beloved brother of Antonio Soares, Antoninho Soares, Emilia Costa and the late Joao Soares and Manuel Soares.
Also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation at the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge Street, in Cambridge on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:30 am.
Funeral mass to follow at St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue in Cambridge at 11:00 am.
Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
