Richard Albano passed away on April 6th, 2023.  Richard was born on May 7, 1939, in Cambridge, MA to Mary (Mello) Albano of Cambridge and Vincent “Louie” Albano of Italy.  He grew up on Elm Street in Cambridge as one of seven children including brothers Raymond “Ray”, John “Jackie”, Robert “Bobby”, Teresa (Kernan), and twin sisters Nancy (Mearn) and Marie (Robicheau). After briefly attending Saint Mary's School, Richard began working for his father in painting, wallpaper, and construction. He also grew up fishing and hunting with his father and brothers and was a member of the National Guard as a young man.

Richard met his wife Carol (Perry) Albano, while she was working at Shea’s Cleaners. They were married and began raising a family of four boys: Richard Louis, Jeffrey Joseph, James Manuel, and Vincent Louis. To his many nieces and nephews, Richard became known as Uncle Dickie by his own side of the family, and Uncle Richie by his wife's side. They were able to buy a home in Somerville to raise their family and eventually had a daughter Christine Ann. Around that time he joined the Painters Union District Council 35 and was a member there for over thirty years before he retired. He and his three brothers helped their Dad build his retirement home traveling to Maine on the weekends. He enjoyed heading to Maine on the weekends to fish, and for the month of November to hunt along with his brothers, sons, nephews, and friends, continuing that tradition many years into his retirement.  He enjoyed seeing his family grow and has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed singing the oldies, trying to sing in Italian, and actually had a pretty good voice. Richard loved telling stories and having long conversations with just about anyone. He loved watching westerns, war movies, sports, and historical shows; especially those about lost treasures. Over the years he loved sneaking the dogs treats and then lying about it. He also loved his cigarettes and going out in any weather for a smoke.

He enjoyed his ongoing part time gig of Chauffeur to his wife, children, and granddaughters, always offering a ride with never a complaint but almost always some singing. To carry out that job he loved having new cars that needed nothing more than wax and an oil change to maintain.

He loved gardening at his home in Somerville, in Maine, and eventually at his daughter's home in Billerica where he and his wife moved in retirement. Christine and Paul got to enjoy his stories and company daily. Christine’s daughters had the honor of having the best Nana and Papa in their lives, watching, and helping them grow every day. He is already and will be deeply missed by all, but especially by his wife, children, and Papa’s girls.

He was Papa to twelve grandchildren: Richard, Christopher, John, Jeffrey, Nichole, Ashley, Alex, Joey, Sophia, Olivia, Shayna, and Isabelle, as well as six great grandchildren: Antonio, Aurora, Christopher, Johnny, Sophia, and Grayson.

May he rest in peace and enjoy being welcomed into heaven by all those gone before him, including two of his own sons, Jeff, and Vinnie.

Please join us in saying goodbye at his services.
