It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Kweku Ghartey on June 11, 2026. Born on July 25, 1984, to Ekow and Diane Ghartey.
Joseph was so many things to so many people, more than could ever be listed here. He was intelligent and deeply curious about the world around him. He loved astronomy and learning about space, especially from Neil deGrasse Tyson, who was a favorite scientist. He took pleasure in sharing his excitement about black holes, singularities, and string theory. He also loved going on deep dives and learning about niche topics, and then sharing that information with those around him.
Joseph was also creative. He liked to draw and write poetry. He went to culinary school and loved creating new recipes and flavor combinations and sharing his food with others. He even liked to write jokes. His family and friends will remember his quick wit and how funny he was. He had a unique ability to bring laughter into a space. He had a warm smile that will be missed by all who experienced it.
Joseph fought quiet battles throughout his life, demonstrating the true definition of resilience. He had a fighting spirit and was adventurous, always pushing forward and forging his own path. He relaxed by watching his hometown teams, the Celtics and the Patriots. He loved movies, binge-watching his favorite shows, and playing poker and chess. He would tell you that his favorite moments were his morning cup of coffee and his memories with his niece.
He is predeceased by his father, Ekow Chrassy Ghartey and survived by his mother, Diane Ghartey, his sisters, Denise and Barbara, and his niece, Anais, and we take comfort in knowing that he will now know eternal peace.
Services will be private.
