Eugenia Hichun Conway (Jennie), 86, passed away peacefully in the wee hours of December 13, 2025, at Mount Auburn Hospital, after a few months of hospitalizations and stints at rehabilitation centers in Cambridge and Waltham.
Jennie was born on July 1, 1939, in Cambridge, MA, to Mary (Orischuk) and Dmitry Hichun, both from the area of Korets, Ukraine.
She graduated in 1956 from Cambridge High and Latin School, where she served on the class history division of the Yearbook Staff. Academically, she earned a Senior Honor and was a member of the Spanish Club. She played on basketball, baseball and volleyball teams, and was a cheerleader, too. Soon afterward high school, she started as a clerk at the Third District Court in East Cambridge. She participated in the many parties and celebrations which court personnel held there. After 42 years of continuous service, particularly in the department for parking and violations, she happily retired from the Court. She continued to be interested in all things related to it, including the retired employee organization, the conversion and renovation of the “notorious” high-rise building, the life stories of other personnel, and the newsworthy cases tried there.
In 1980, Jennie married her long-term love, Joseph “Joe” D. Conway, Sr. Besides being primarily Cambridge residents, Jennie and Joe spent every summer weekend at Joe’s traditional Hampton Beach cottage in New Hampshire, where she hosted many get-togethers and lobster feasts. They also spent as much time as possible during cold weather at their cozy condo in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL. They spent nearly every Wednesday night at Santarpio’s in East Boston for pizza with good friends, Frank and Fran Marchetti. Other favorite haunts included Frank’s Steakhouse in North Cambridge and The Galley Hatch in Hampton, NH.
Jennie loved being as active as possible. She enjoyed candlepin bowling and golf, spending time on beaches on the Cape, Florida and elsewhere, short ocean cruises and attending circuses and Broadway shows with girlfriends. In rare downtime, she read popular bestsellers, listened to renown music from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and played digital solitaire.
