Amilcar T. DaSilva, 93, of Somerville, MA passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025. Born on April 11,1931. He was the beloved son of Jose and Maria (Tavares) DaSilva.
Amilcar was born and raised in Aveiro, Portugal. He was a true "Cagareu". If given any chance, he would proudly brag about his "Aveiro" and tell people how they needed to visit his beautiful country of Portugal. As a young man, he was a talented athlete. He enjoyed basketball, soccer, crew, among others and an avid member of various sports clubs which he held dear to his heart.
Upon moving to the Boston area in the 1960's, he established strong ties in the Portuguese community and was known by many. He was an employee at TRW fasteners factory in Cambridge for many years. He maintained strong friendships over his lifetime both in the United States and in Portugal and always enjoyed returning to Portugal to see his dear friends and family.
He enjoyed his favorite sports teams including Beira Mar, Benfica, Galitos and the Celtics. Amilcar was a proud father and grandfather. He enjoyed hearing about his grandchildren's sports and academic achievements. Going to breakfast or lunch with the youngest's of his grandchildren was one of his favorite outings.
Amilcar was the father of Wanda Foley of Methuen, Sandra Harris and her husband Christopher of Methuen and predeceased by his daughter, Amanda DaSilva and son, Francisco Tavares. He was the proud grandfather of Jessica, Kian and Lexi Harris, Michael DaSilva, Emma, Benjamin and Cole Foley. He is also survived by many other friends and relatives in Portugal.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, mentor and friend who will be dearly missed.
