Manuel A. Santos, at age 91, of Somerville, passed away after a short illness on August 16, 2023, at the Sancta Maria Nursing Facility in Cambridge.
He was the devoted husband of the late Liduina C. Santos.
Loving father of Manuel H. Santos and his wife Fernanda.
Cherished grandfather of Timothy Santos and his wife Michelle, Ryan Santos and his wife Charlynne.
Adored great-grandfather of Bentley, Adalynn, Brayden and Ava Santos.
Beloved brother of Laurinda “Laura” Parent and her late husband Carl, and the late Maria dos Santos Mendonca Silva and her late husband Serafin, the late Maria Madelina Alves who is survived by her husband Joao “John” and the late Hildalberto Mendoca who is survived by his wife Maria.
Also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.
Manuel was born on August 20, 1931, in Graciosa, Acores, Portugal. He was the son of the late Jose Santos and Leoncia A. (Espinola) Mendonca.
He was raised and educated in Graciosa, and worked on the farms and also at Adega Winery. In 1968 he immigrated to the United States with his wife and son settling in Cambridge and then Somerville.
Visitation at the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge Street in Cambridge on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:30 am.
Funeral Mass to follow at St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue in Cambridge at 11:00 am.
Internment will be at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
Manuel retired in 1996 from Boston University where he worked as a custodian for many years. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Cambridge, and a member of the Portuguese American Center “The Blue’s Club, and the Holy Ghost Society of Lowell.
