Edna M. Lima
1924 - 2023
Edna May (Correia) Lima, 98, a longtime resident of Cambridge, passed away at her home on January 02. Edna leaves her loving and well-loved family that includes her two daughters, Jean (John P. Lima) and Gail (Michael Ferris), her daughter-in-law, Sheila, six grandchildren (Jean Boisvert, Mark, Nicole, Michael, Kellymarie, and Christopher Lima), seven great-grandchildren (Leamarie Gordon, Summer Monson, Jack Boisvert, Paul, Jr., Jessica, Jackie-lyn, and Matthew Lima), and two great-great-grandchildren (Kai Fernandes and Dominik Lima). She was pre-deceased by her loving husband and dance partner, Americo (Coke), her much-loved son, Robert, and two grandchildren, Paul and Amanda. Born in Somerville, Edna was the loving daughter of the late Jacintho (Jessie) Correia Peixinho and Maria Clara Correia Peters, and a devoted sister to the late Amelia (Emily) Luz. Edna previously resided with her husband in Duxbury and Florida. She was a loving and proud mother and devoted wife. Edna was someone you could not help but notice; whether it was because of her big laugh, or a sing-along she encouraged, or maybe you spotted her in one of her distinctive hats. You always knew when she came into a room. Edna loved to host big gatherings for her family with lots of home-cooked food. She was known for her baking, including the best Portuguese sweet bread (massa sovada) that we ever tasted! In her later years, Edna embraced those around her. She was a good friend to many. Edna loved her family dearly and boasted about her children to anyone who would listen. She was grateful for the friends she made over the years that lived in the Putnam Square Apartments in Cambridge. Edna and her family will be eternally grateful to all the caring aide workers from Metropolitan Home Health Care and the services provided by Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services that allowed her to remain in her home during the final years of her life. Her family would also like to acknowledge the compassionate care that Beth Israel Lahey Hospice provided for the last 2 years.
