1923 – 2022

DeMelin, Anna (Silva) of Malden, May 15, 2022, at age 99.

Devoted wife of the late Joaquin “Jack” DeMelin.  Loving mother of Susan R.  Tourkantonis, Nancy C. Tavilla and her husband Stephen, Paul J. DeMelin and his  wife Elena.  Cherished grandmother of Arthur Tourkantonis and his wife Isabel,  Jason Tourkantonis and his wife Kristine, Mark DeMelin and Rachel DeMelin.   Adored great-grandmother of Brady, Jackson, Joshua, Maya, and Cole.  Beloved  sister of the late Margaret Arenella, John, Manuel, Mary, Frank, Anthony, William, and George Silva.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Anna was born in Cambridge, and also spent part of her youth in Reading living on a farm, which she remembered fondly.  She came from a large family and was proud of her Portuguese heritage.  She lived most of her life in Somerville, where she raised her family with her husband Jack.

Anna had many friends, and was known for her generosity and kindness.  She was also known for giving advice in the form of her favorite phrases and sayings.  She took pride in being a hard worker at various jobs, and in her later years was employed as a nanny.

Anna spent her final years in Malden.  One of her favorite pastimes was going to the Casino.  One of her nicknames was “Granny Slots”.

Above all Anna enjoyed being with her family.  She cherished the time she was able to spend with them and the memories that were made, and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandparent, great-grandparent and sister.
