Ferreira, Walter S. “Lefty” of Medford, February 13, 2022, at age 99.

Devoted husband of the late Leocadia “Lolly” (Babicz) Ferreira.  Beloved father of Linda C. Dell Isola and her husband Gil, and the late Sandra Ferreira. Cherished grandfather of Eric Cahalan and his wife Jacqueline and Bryan Cahalan and his wife Melissa. Adored great-grandfather of Payton, Chloe, Tanner, Paige, Hunter, Remy and Ryder Cahalan. Beloved brother of the late Gilbert Ferreira and Gilda De Freitas. Also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.

Lefty was born in New Bedford and moved to Somerville with his family when he was very young.  He left high school and enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a voluntary public work program to help his family when times were tough for a lot of families in the country.  He was part of a crew that helped build the ski trails on Mount Mansfield in Vermont.

Lefty was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient.  He fought in WWII as a Mortar Gunner in the Pacific Arena.  When he returned home, he drove a taxi and worked as a dental technician.

He was the former Commander and a lifetime member of the PAV of Cambridge, an organization that participated in parades and other events in the community.  They also ran many social functions at the club. There was a dance or dinner for every occasion.

He was a skilled woodworker and loved working on his house and spending time in his workshop.  He made items for his home and his family, often at the request of his wife.

He had a long and wonderful life just shy of 100 years.
