Mary Taber Breslin

1926 - 2020

Mary T. Breslin, a lifelong resident of Charlestown and Hull, MA, passed away peacefully on 8/26/20.

Mary was born to loving parents, the late Dr. John Breslin and Mary Agnes Mae” (Taber) Breslin, in 1926.  She was predeceased by her sister, Florence Taber Breslin and several close cousins.

Mary attended Regis College, where she remained an active member of the alumni association until her death.  After Regis College, Mary pursued her Masters in Social Work from Simmons College.  Marys extraordinary social work career included working at the Home for Little Wanderers and subsequently, building an impressive social work department at St. Margarets Hospital, Dorchester.

Mary was very active on the national and state boards for the Society for Hospital Social Work Directors.  She was also instrumental in successfully promoting a bill for social work licensure.

Mary, a bright and eager student her entire life, was a member into her 90s in the Lifelong Learning program, originally at Boston College, then with Regis College.

She was also an avid traveler with her sister, Florence, which also served as a stage for continued education.

Of greatest joy for Mary was her family. Mary was central to the extended family of cousins and to the joyful gatherings at her homes in Charlestown and in Hull.  Mary is survived by many loving cousins and so many dear friends.

Donations may be made in Marys memory to Hull Lifesaving Museum or Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Hull,  St. Mary St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Charlestown; or to the Zelma Lacey House, in Charlestown.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street in Charlestown.

So many special memories of Mae Mae that I don't know where to start. Not only a friend of my generation of the Hoys, but of two before us. A fixture at the beach. a reminder of all that is precious about friends and family.
May God set a place at His table near the intersection of Cadish Ave and heaven for Mae Mae, in the sun

We offer our sincere condolences to Mary's family and friends. Dear Mary inspired us all in so many ways. We met her at St. Mary's in Charlestown. She often came to daily Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Chapel (at St. Mary's). Friday gatherings were really special for us. We enjoyed some lovely conversations over coffee and pastries after Mass on Fridays. Her wit and constant good humor brought lots of positivity to any gathering. May Jesus, Mary, and the Holy Angels accompany her in her new home!.

I remember Mary fondly as a Social Worker in the hospital. Rest in peace.
