Maria P. Bairos (Chaves) of Cambridge, known by all as Palmira, passed on from a sudden illness surrounded by loving family April 26 2020 at age 84.
Palmira and her husband Manuel immigrated to Massachusetts in 1974 from the Azores with 8 children and one on the way.
Palmira was true matriarch. A special woman. The hardest worker, Feisty and powerful. Independent, strong and determined. Devotion to family was her number one purpose and joy.
She was a very funny lady. Whether it were telling jokes, stories or hitting you with witty comebacks. Many artistic talents such as singing, artful crochets and so on. She was a gifted storyteller due to her photographic memory. We are so blessed to have been part of her life. She will never be forgotten and will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was the devoted wife of the late Manuel C. Bairos, loving mother of Maria Katz, Zenalia Pereira, Manuel Bairos, Jose Bairos, Lidia Bairos, Antonio Bairos, Maria Manuela Bairos, Diane Bairos and the late Norberto Bairos, beloved sister of Americo Chaves and Jose Ernesto Chaves, and survived by her cherished 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
