Butler, Catherine “Cassie”, age 56, of Somerville passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She was born April 30, 1966, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was a longtime resident of Somerville, Massachusetts. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1984 where she was active in the SHS color guard. There she met her high school sweetheart, and husband of 37 years, John H. Butler Jr. who she married in 1985. He was her lifelong companion, rock, and best friend.  She spent some time at Northeastern University studying computer science.

She was a devoted mother and is remembered lovingly by her five children Laurenashley (Butler) Wood, Castle Rock, CO, Michael P. Fiore, Medford, MA, John H Butler III, Somerville, MA, Michael T. Butler, Somerville, MA, and Emilee C. Butler, Somerville, Ma, and her grandson Jordan M. Butler.

She spent much of her early years working in the Somerville Public Schools as a paraprofessional in a Kindergarten classroom. She made this move to be present in her children’s lives. She would make time to attend sporting, school, and important events during these times. She spent years being part of the PTA and spent time as the President of the PTA. She changed careers later in life to ensure that her children received a higher education. This led her to working at Mount Auburn Hospital, where she spent many years working in different departments. These included the walk-in clinic, travel clinic, and several others. During her time there she received the award of employee of the month, which she was humble to receive!

She will be especially remembered for her love of her children and grandchild, and her kindness and willingness to always be the first one to volunteer at any functions from school, to PTA, to helping a sick friend. She spent a great deal of time celebrating her love for Disney including taking her ‘honeymoon’ at Walt Disney World with her Husband. And who could forget her love of camping which started with a small tent and her three small kids, when it took three hours to realize the tent was set up backwards. Luckily, it was all uphill from there as she then spent every summer in New Hampshire enjoying nature with her family!

Her smile and kindness will be missed by all!

Her wake will be held on Monday, March 6th, 2023, from 4 PM-8PM at Rogers Funeral Home located at 380 Cambridge St, Cambridge, MA 02141.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cassie’s name to Autism Speaks. www.autismspeaks.org/donate.

I had the honor and pleasure of working with Cassie Butler for many years and knew her as an invaluable team member at Mount Auburn's Quimby Center for Geriatric Care. Her contributions to our geriatric medical team were marked by intelligence, kindness, empathy and deep commitment both to our patients and to other members of the team. With all the challenges of geriatric care, Cassie Butler was a creative problem solver. She always did her best to maintain professional perspective and a great sense of humor. I offer my deepest condolences to her husband, John, to her children and grandchild, and to all those who came to appreciate and love Cassie as we did at the Quimby Center.

I am so sorry for all of you. I was lucky enough to have been her friend for many years through the Lincoln Park PTA. She was the kindest person I knew when it came to anyone in need. She cherished her children and her John. Always together. Love to you all and keep all those wonderful memories in your hearts. Leah
