Maria Luisa de Freitas Terra Silva, 86, of Woburn, MA, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 19, 2011, surrounded by her family. Maria Luisa was predeceased by her loving husband Gabriel A. Silva. She is survived by her sisters Maria La-Salette Terra Nunes, Maria Angelina Terra
Alvernaz and her husband, Elvira Maria Terra Andrade and her husband, Cecilia La-Salette Terra Garcia and her husband; and also by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded
in death by her brother Florencio Monteiro Terra.
Maria Luisa “Tia Bisa” was born April 24, 1925, in Horta, Faial, Acores. She immigrated to America over 50 years ago and settled in Somerville, Mass where she met her husband of 40 years “Gabe”. Together they sponsored many family members from the Acores to join them in America.
They later moved to Woburn, Mass and not having any children of their own they opened up their home for numerous family celebrations, parties, holidays and special occasions. She worked for a number of years at Somerville Hospital and was a member of Somerville Ladies Aid and St. Anthony’s Parish. She later volunteered at Somerville Hospital, Little Sisters of the Poor and Lahey Clinic where
she shared her special gift of being a positive inspiration to everyone she met. Her joyous laugh will be forever remembered and missed by all. Funeral services for Maria Luisa Terra Silva will be held at 10am, Wednesday, November 23rd at St. Anthony’s Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, Mass. With burial to follow at Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Nov 22nd from 4-8pm at Rogers Funeral Home 380
