Pereira, Manuel O., of Medford, passed away on April 14, 2024, at age 85, surrounded by his loving family.
Devoted husband of Luisa (Carreiro) Pereira.
Loving father of Manuel Pereira.
Beloved brother of Juvenal Pereira and his wife Natalia Pereira.
Dear uncle of Jean Resendes, Mark Resendes, Grace Shellie, Patricia Ortiz, and Claudio Pereira.
Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
In Sao Miguel while in the military service, he was a Furriel Miliciano and was drafted to the Angolan War of Independence (Portuguese: Guerra de Independência de Angola; 1961–1974). He went on duty from 1961 to 1963. His troops were one of the first group of soldiers to be mobilized to Angola. With the horrific atrocities that he experienced; Angels were watching over him. He survived the war and returned home at the end of 1963. He then worked as an Accountant where he met his wife to be Luisa. They married in 1965 and their son, Manuel Antonio Pereira, was born in 1966. In 1973, the family migrated to America and resided in Somerville, Mass and then 5 yrs later moved to the town of Medford. He worked in several jobs as an Assembler and Custodian and retired working in the Federal Court System of Boston in the Maintenance department. With the experience of the War, he was able to overcome those horrible experiences and had a positive outlook in life. An unconditional love for his Wife and Son as well as all his family members and friends. He had an amazing compassion for the world and a very humble man and respected by all.

Funeral mass at St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Mederios Avenue in Cambridge at 10:00 am.
Visiting hours at the funeral home in Cambridge on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
