Barcelos, Felix S. of Somerville, October 8, 2023, at age 98.
Born in Praia Da Victoria, Terceira, Acores on June 21, 1925, the son of the late Antonio De Sousa Gil and Maria Adelaide Barcelos.
He was the devoted husband of the late Maria Lourdes (Silveira) for 69 years.
Loving father of Dora M. Martins and her husband George Martins, Leticia “Tish” Pombeiro-Barcelos and her late husband Carlos Pombeiro, Ida Rego and her husband Fernando Rego and Maria Margarida Barcelos.
Cherished grandfather of Diane Gabaree and her husband John, Jason Martins and his wife Nicole, Amanda Lahue and her husband Joseph, Jessica Lima, Stephanie Rego and her fiancée Matthew McDonagh.
Adored great-grandfather of Krista and Kyle Gabaree, Ethan, Noah and Emma Martins, Alexa, Sofia and Joseph Jr. “JoJo” Lahue, and Savannah Lima.
He will also be missed by his beloved nieces, nephews, many other loving family members and friends, but especially by his nephew Alder and his wife Hilda Domingos and his godchild Maria de Lourdes Da Luz.
He served in the Portuguese Army and was employed by The American Air Force Base in Terecira Azores as a telegraph operator for 25 years. Felix immigrated to the United States in January 1969 in order to give his daughters a better future.
He retired from Boston University where he worked as a custodian for 35 years. After retiring he spent summers in his home town of Terciera Azores where he would reminisce with old friends and family.
Nothing gave him more joy in life than spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren. He loved to dance and would do so at every family gathering. He was a man of very few words, but left a lifelong impression on all who knew him.

Funeral mass to follow at St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue in Cambridge at 10:00 am.
Visiting hours at the funeral home in Cambridge on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
