Jose (Joe) Francisco Couto, age 52 of Somerville MA, was granted his angel wings on March 24, 2022, as he passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Joe was born to mother Maria Ilda and Father Jose Couto in Villa Franca, Sao Miguel, Acores. His family immigrated to the United States to give him a better life, where he married the love of his life in 1990 and created a beautiful home for their two daughters and granddaughter.

Joe was passionate about golfing, boating, fishing, and most importantly his family. Joe’s family were his heart and joy, and he was grateful for the numerous fun family vacations and memories that were created throughout the years. Time spent at Joe’s house was very special to him and he enjoyed every minute of it. Joe is most remembered for his generosity, kindness, and outgoing personality. He looked forward to volunteering for the Imperio Das Criancas and contributing to the Wounded Warriors Project.

His devotion for hard work and building strong friendships is evident in the 25 plus years he worked at Boston Scientific, and through obtaining his bachelor’s degree while working full-time while raising his daughters. He continued working as a Quality Engineer until the very end and will be greatly missed by all his colleagues.

Despite being afflicted with a challenging illness, Joe never allowed a cancer diagnosis to define who he was. He was truly a remarkable fighter, as he never once complained and accomplished more than anyone could imagine. He stated, “If I’m going to go out, I’m going to go out fighting!” His memories will live on in the hearts and minds of anyone who knew him. Joe gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.

Joe is survived by his wife-Ligia, two daughters-Kim & Briana, granddaughter- Gianna, mother-in-law- Adelina Lopes, three sisters- Maria Ferreira, Gloria Vicente , Conceicao Couto, and several nephews, nieces, and friends.

We love you with all our hearts Joe.
