Our Locations

 Chaves of Arlington, Jose A., September 29th.  Devoted husband of Dorothy (Simas) Chaves.  Loving father of Philip and his wife Liliete, Mark and his wife Katia.  Cherished grandfather of Sophia, Jacob, Lucas, and Coral Chaves.  Beloved brother of Angelina Batista, John Chaves and his wife Manuela, Isabel Chaves and her husband Jose Antonio, and the late Mami and Joao De Bairos and Antonio Batista. He also leaves behind his very special mother-in-law Virgina Simas, and her dedicated family including Noreen & Manny, John & Rose, Lois & Douglas and their families, as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.  Funeral from the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge St., Cambridge Monday at 8 am.  Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church in Cambridge at 9 am.  Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 6 pm.  Joe will be greatly missed by the Portuguese Community that he was so proud to be a part of.  Joe was an innovator and catalyst for change, who organized a CCD program of more than 1000 students, spearheaded the fund raising and construction of the new St. Anthony’s Church in Cambridge .  Joe embodied the American spirit and as a newly arrived immigrant to the U.S., started in the mail room at Lumber Mutual Ins. Co. and rose through the ranks to be its Chief Operating Officer.  Upon retirement, he found his greatest fulfillment in teaching and mentoring the hard working students at Bunker Hill Community College.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Joe and Dorothy Chaves Foundation, C/O TD Bank, 880 Mass.
