Jerome (Jerry) L. Guida, age 96, of Cambridge, MA, passed away August 21, 2021, at Mt. Auburn Hospital after a brief illness.  Jerry was born on April 25, 1925 in Vieste, Italy.  He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 4 months and eventually settled in Cambridge, MA with his mother Giovannina Sicuro Guida, his father Leonardo Onorio Guida, and his older brother Louis (Lou) Guida.

Jerry was a lifelong Cantabrigian. He left Cambridge Latin High School in 1943 to serve in WWII, following his brother Lou into the service.  He was in the US Army 79th Division receiving a Bronze Star, Silver Star, two Purple Hearts and the French Cross. A few months after returning from the war, he met Anna A Santos, the couple married on September 14, 1947.  Early in his career, Jerry worked at Jay Shoe company where he was a leather buyer. After the company moved to Maine, Jerry joined the Postal Service where he worked for 28 years and retired as a regional manager in 1985. He loved each of the neighborhood post offices he served, but most especially the one in the North End.  Jerry was always bringing home fresh bread and produce from Haymarket square which reminded him of his Saturday trips to the North End with his father.  In his free time, Jerry enjoyed penny poker, dances, gardening, trains, playing the lottery and being an Usher at the Saturday 5pm Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church.  Jerry was awarded his high school degree in 2000 at “Greatest Generation” ceremony by Tom Brokaw at the Cambridge High and Latin school.

Jerry is predeceased by his parents Giovannina Sicuro Guida and Leonardo Onorio Guida and his brother Louis Guida and his wife Rose.  He is survived by his wife of almost 74 years Anna Guida of Cambridge, MA, daughter Jo-Anne Rogers and her husband Dennis of Lynnfield, MA, granddaughter Elizabeth Rogers of Cambridge, MA, son Len Guida, his wife Miwa Watkins and their son William Clouse of Brookline, MA, his sister-in-law Elaine Santos of Cambridge, MA, brother-in-law Robert Santos and his wife Elaine of Mendham, NJ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral was private.  A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Details to follow.
