Charlotte Charest 

 

October 13, 1939 - January 13, 2021

 

Charlotte Charest, 81, formerly of Cambridge, Massachusetts passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 13, 2021 after a hard fought battle with cancer. 

Charlotte was the anchor and matriarch of the Charest family.  Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren who she taught to be hard-working, strong and independent. 

She was an esteemed and well-regarded Operational Supervisor at Middlesex Probate and Family Court in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She also served on the Auxiliary Police force for the city of Cambridge for many years. 

Charlotte was well-known for her love of cooking which she shared with her family every holiday gathering.  She also enjoyed listening to country music and reading.  

Charlotte was the beloved mother of 7 children. She is survived by Wanda and Charles Evans of Fayetteville, NC, Michael and Nelly Charest of Derry, NH, P.J. Charest of Fitchburg, MA, Valerie and Joe Dicicco of Medford, MA, Alfreda Cromwell and longtime friend Cheryl Tessari of South Weymouth, MA, Alfred and Gaza Cromwell of Burbank, CA and Gerry Sullivan of Reading, MA. She also raised her niece Rita Callahan of Harwich, MA and nephew Jeff Callahan of Billerica, MA. She is survived by her sister Dolly and brother-in-law David Perry of Barnstable, MA, Mary Collins of Indian Orchards, MA and Virginia Carr of South Daytona, FL.

Charlotte was also the proud grandmother and great grandmother of twenty-four grandchildren: Alexandra Charest Dutch, Valerie Charest, Tyler Charest, Haley Charest, Jacqui Wynn, Alyssa Charest, Arianna Charest, Connor Charest, Darcy Bushnell, Jennifer Evans, Stephanie Evans, Charlie Evans, Tristan Evans, Alfred Cromwell III, Violet Cromwell, Lily Cromwell, Faldora Faldor, Pauline Faldor, Jeff Callahan Jr., Patrick Callahan. She was also the loving “GG” to her great grandchildren Jordan Wright, Lillianna Wright, RJ Brixton and Austin Bushnell.

She was predeceased by her father John Collins, her mother Eleanor Collins, her sisters Sarah Callahan, Carol Pearson and her brother John Collins Jr.

A visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge Street in Cambridge, on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Due to Covid-19 and Massachusetts Tracing Guidelines, the funeral home is limited to 20 people inside the funeral home.  A mask must be worn, over both the nose and mouth, at all times, and social distancing guidelines must be observed. 

The funeral home and the family are asking those who plan to attend to please come in, pay your condolences and then exit to make it possible for others to do the same.  

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue, in Cambridge at 10:00 am.  

Everyone attending church must be registered.  You may register at the funeral home on Thursday during the visitation.

Due to Covid - 19, Massachusetts Tracing Guidelines and the Guidelines of the Archdiocese of Boston, seating is limited to 95 people in the church.   

Social distancing must be observed, and a mask must be worn at all times.  

No one is permitted to enter the church until the funeral home personnel arrive.  

Due to Covid – 19 the eulogy will be presented at the Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West Street, in Braintree where Charlotte will be laid to rest immediately following services at church.
