Sugrue, John E. Jr., of Ladson, South Carolina, formerly a resident of Cambridge, Massachusetts, died peacefully on August 11, 2020 at the age of 63.

The loving son of John E. Sugrue, Sr., and the late Rosemary E. Sugrue.

Beloved brother of Eileen Sugrue-McElearney and her husband Paul McElearney of Natick, Christine Sugrue and her partner Phred Lender of Savannah, GA, Edward Sugrue and his wife Susan of Fairfax, VA, Peter Sugrue and his wife Lisa of Hull, Brian Sugrue and his wife Heather of Milton, and Christopher Sugrue and his wife Lisa of Scituate.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family members and friends.

John’s hearty laugh, wry wit, and unwavering enthusiasm for cheering on his favorite, mostly Boston, teams will be missed, as well as his prolific and fond stories of “The Circle.”

John will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.  Due to COVID-19 all services will be private at this time, with a celebration of his life to be held at a later date.

Though at this point we are not able to gather and mourn our loss, it is still possible for families and friends to be supportive and compassionate.  Please feel free to leave words of sympathy on the funeral home website.

Donations in memory of John may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

We're glad that we got to meet John and spend time with him at your infamous Thanksgiving dinners. We know how sad it is to lose a sibling. Our thoughts are with you all.--Jean & Larry

Sending my sincere condolences to you, Ed, your Dad and your whole family over the loss of John. I, too, have very fond memories of “The Circle” and all the fun we all had growing up in Cambridge. May he Rest In Peace.

I grew up with John - called J. Boogs by us. We played in the Circle and sledded down the little alley. We also had the basement of our house as a hangout. I went to high school with John and also his prom! He was a great friend. I hope he found some joy in his life. May he rest in peace.
