Tavares, Joseph G., of Watertown, February 9, 2018 at age 84, formerly of East Cambridge. Devoted husband of Joan T. Tavares (Witkus). Loving father of Claire Perrin and her husband Gregg, Matthew Tavares and his wife Diana, Susan Alberghini and her husband Anthony and Jason Tavares. Cherished grandfather of Jeffrey, Mitchell and Keith Perrin, Xavier and Cecilia Tavares, Nicole and Gabriella Alberghini. Beloved brother of Anthony Tavares and his wife Christine and Maria Gomes. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving relatives and friends. Funeral from the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge St., in Cambridge on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 8:00 am. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Ave., in Cambridge at 9:00 am. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Bourne on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the charity of one’s choice. Mr. Tavares was a U.S. Airforce Korean War Veteran.  Mr. T. was a CCD teacher at St. Anthony’s Church in Cambridge for many years. He helped supervise the CYO, was a coach and President of Watertown Little League, and an avid fisherman and fan of local sports teams.

I was sadden to hear of Mr Tavares passing. Mr. Tavares was my Confirmation teacher in 1980. I remember him as a kind and gentle man. May his family find comfort in the memories they shared. My sympathies to his family. Mr. Tavares may you RIP. You were a good man!
