I am so sorry for your loss. Mr Gomes taught Math to 2 of my 3 kids. They always had funny stories to tell at the dinner table about class. I remember how surprised they were when we ran into him working in the Fish and Tackle store in Falmouth! He gave us tips on where to fish. My husband also played mens hockey with him years back.

I am so sorry for your loss. I wanted to share a short anecdote with you. Mr. Gomes was one of the best teachers I had throughout my entire academic career, & I think his class might have been the only math class I've ever looked forward to. He once asked us to answer a question by walking to one of two corners in the room. Realizing that I was alone in one corner, I started to cross the room to join the group. Mr. Gomes stopped me & told me to have more confidence, & that I shouldn't be afraid to have a different answer or be wrong. As it turns out, I was the only one with the right answer. I don't remember the question, but I often think about his kind, funny, heartfelt response that encouraged me to take risks, be decisive, and believe in myself. It was one small moment of his life, but it had an impact on my decisions and the way I carry myself in the world. If every student had a teacher like Mr. Gomes, I think there would be a lot more happy people in the world.
