Maria Moniz Freitas of Somerville, May 6, 2017 at age 94.
Born in Porto Formoso, Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal on May 4, 1923 the daughter of the late Maria da Estrela Tavares and Manuel Moniz de Sa, Maria and her late husband Manuel Correia Freitas moved to Somerville Massachusetts in 1970 to give her seven (7) children a better life.
She is the loving mother of Joseph, Goretti, Antonio, Nicholas and Zachary Freitas, Margaret Tavares and Maria Melo. She leaves behind 16 cherished grandchildren, Malinda, Robert, Katie, Bryan, Zachary (Monte), Peter, Michelle, Antonio Jr., Rachael, Alexandra, Jessica, Zachary (Freitas), Matthew, Jacob, Andrew and Cidalia. She will be greatly missed by her 7 adored great-grandchildren, Nathan, Isaac, Jackson, Abram, Aurora, Brady and Eli. Maria was pre-deceased by her 6 siblings, Manuel, Joao, Jose, Antonio, Maria da Luz and Margarida de Jesus. She is survived by her brother in law Jose de Freitas Correia as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral will be from the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge St., Cambridge on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 9:00 am. Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 179 Summer St. Somerville at 10:00 am. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Maria’s family and religion meant everything to her; she loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
